Repairers And Builders Wanting to Help:



     To those of you who don’t know me, my name is Chelsea Clark. I am the owner and operator of a guitar repair shop called Guitars And Caffeine, located in Los Angeles, CA. For those of you who do know me, I hope this letter finds you healthy and happy.

     Our community has suffered yet another devastation with the damaged caused by Hurricane Harvey. I believe it is in the best interest of our country and our industry that we come together and help the musicians of Texas get their instruments back in playing order.  The number of instruments is far too great for one shop to tackle alone. My hope is that luthiers from across the country can come together and help better the lives of the musicians affected by Hurricane Harvey. I have contacted shipping companies, guitar manufacturing companies and string companies asking for their assistance. With the help and donations of companies, I hope to be able to lessen the cost of these repairs for you and for the customer. 

    I’ve worked on many instruments that have been damaged by floods, fires, and tornadoes. As bad as they may sound and look, most can be repaired!

     My plan is to work with music stores in Texas to coordinate evaluations and shipping to repair shops across the US that are appropriately skilled to take on the needs of each individual instrument. This will insure each customer receives the best service and quickest turnaround time - one less worry during such a stressful time in their life.

    I will also be reaching out to the leading insurance companies to inform them of the shops around the U.S. who are willing and able to help. Since I have worked with insurance companies before, and have tackled extensive repairs, I will be more than happy to assistance your repair team in any way possible. 

    I’m asking for luthiers who have had experience in these matters to email me with tips, tricks and inspirational stories that might help other luthiers provide the best service. 

        I hope to be able to provide a packet with tips and tricks from luthiers around the world, as well as donated materials and financial aid for customers who do not have insurance. Every dollar, item, or service donated will be invested directly to the cause.

Not having prior experience with insurance claims and natural disasters will not disqualify you from helping- a packet of tips and tricks about cleaning, safety precautions, and helpful words from other luthiers will be provided. 


I am doing my best to get donations from parts and string companies, as well and luthier supply companies, so that we can keep our costs lower - and pass the savings onto the customers who don't have insurance.
